LC009 – Explicitly Teaching Phonology, Orthography, Morphology and Crossmapping

Explicitly Teaching Phonology, Orthography, Morphology and Crossmapping to Support Word Reading and Spelling

Develop evidence-based spelling instruction across phonology, orthography, morphology, and Crossmapping. This comprehensive four-course package shows educators how to teach each linguistic lens explicitly and help students coordinate them when analysing, reading, and spelling words.

Course Detail

This comprehensive four-course package brings together the three essential linguistic lenses of spelling—phonology, orthography, and morphology—with Crossmapping, the process that enables students to integrate and coordinate these interconnected word forms.
Across the four courses, Dr Daffern explains the research underpinning each linguistic lens and demonstrates how they can be taught explicitly to support word reading and spelling. Educators then learn how to use the innovative Crossmapping framework, developed through Dr Daffern’s PhD and more than a decade of subsequent research, to help students explore the relationships among sounds, written patterns, and meaningful word parts.
Through clear explanations, authentic classroom demonstrations, practical examples, and follow-up tasks, this package equips educators with the knowledge and confidence to analyse words through multiple linguistic lenses and implement precise, flexible, and responsive spelling instruction.
This 16-hour 30-minute package includes:
LC004 – Explicitly Teaching Phonology to Support Word Reading and Spelling
LC005 – Explicitly Teaching Orthography to Support Word Reading and Spelling
LC006 – Explicitly Teaching Morphology to Support Word Reading and Spelling
LC007 – Crossmapping: A Multiple Linguistic Lenses Word Analysis Framework
